Phase field modeling of frictional slip with slip weakening/strengthening under non-isothermal conditions

چکیده
Cracks, veins, joints, faults, and ocean crusts are strong discontinuities of different length scales that can be found in many geological formations. While the constitutive laws for frictional slip these interfaces have been focus decades-long geophysical research, capturing evolving geometry such as branching, coalescence, corresponding interplay between mode II crack growth compression remains a challenging task. This work employs phase field framework contact originated Fei Choo (2020), s.t. represented by implicit functions responses transitional damage zone is approximated diffusive law captures coupling bulk interfacial plasticity. To replicate rate dependence size effects commonly exhibited interfaces, we propose regularized weakening/strengthening at loading rates temperature regimes. Numerical examples provided to show model may converge into strong-discontinuity counterpart capture response along geometrically complex interfaces.

Partial-slip frictional response of rough surfaces
If two elastic bodies with rough surfaces are first pressed against each other and then loaded tangentially, sliding will occur at the boundary of the contact area while the inner parts may still stick. With increasing tangential force, the sliding parts will expand while the sticking parts shrink and finally vanish. In this paper, we study the fractions of the contact area, tangential force an...
متن کاملSlip flow in porous micro-tubes under local thermal non-equilibrium conditions
In the present work, forced convection heat transfer of slip flow in porous micro-tubes with local thermal non-equilibrium between the gas and the solid matrix is investigated numerically. For this purpose, the flow is considered hydrodynamically developed but thermally developing. The Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer model in conjunction with separate energy equations for the gas and the solid matri...
متن کاملQuantum phase-slip junction under microwave irradiation
We consider the dynamics of a quantum phase-slip junction (QPSJ), a dual Josephson junction, connected to a microwave source with frequency ωmw. With respect to an ordinary Josephson junction, a QPSJ can sustain dual Shapiro steps, consisting of well-defined current plateaus at multiple integers of eωmw/π in the current-voltage (I -V ) characteristic. The experimental observation of these plate...
متن کاملAre non-slip socks really 'non-slip'? An analysis of slip resistance
BACKGROUND Non-slip socks have been suggested as a means of preventing accidental falls due to slips. This study compared the relative slip resistance of commercially available non-slip socks with other foot conditions, namely bare feet, compression stockings and conventional socks, in order to determine any traction benefit. METHODS Phase one involved slip resistance testing of two commercia...
متن کاملNonlinear Estimation of Longitudinal Tire Slip Under Several Driving Conditions
This paper presents an effectively unbiased nonlinear estimation scheme which identifies tire longitudinal stiffness and effective radius using GPS and ABS wheelspeed sensors. This estimation strategy is then used to experimentally identify the longitudinal stiffness and effective radius of a summer tire and a winter tire under several different test conditions. The data clearly shows that ther...
